Areas of Practice

LABOR union representation

Labor union representation is the firm’s primary specialty and focus. We represent unions in all areas of union-side labor law, including grievance arbitrations; contract negotiation; unfair labor practice charges and representation proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board; litigation in state and federal court of all types of matters, including duty of fair representation, secondary boycott, discrimination, and defense and enforcement of arbitration awards; and internal union matters such as elections and by-law review.

civil rights

Our civil rights practice includes First Amendment claims on behalf of public employees; equal protection violations, including race, gender, and sexual orientation discrimination; and election law.

benefit fund representation

We provide counsel and representation to jointly-administered, multi-employer benefit plans (also known as “Taft-Hartley” plans after the law that created them) in all forms of litigation, including claims against the plans for denial of benefits and claims on behalf of the plans for collection of delinquent contributions owed by employers.

public records and open meetings

The firm believes in governmental openness and transparency. Indiana has two main governmental transparency laws, the Indiana Open Door Law and the Indiana Access to Public Records Act. Unfortunately, many Hoosier citizens are denied the ability to attend public meetings or access to public records. We represent citizens whose right-to-know what their government is doing has been denied.

employment matters

Our attorneys have decades of experience representing private and public-sector employees in employment matters. We represent individuals in all manner of employment cases, including: wrongful discharge; wage and hour disputes; employment discrimination and retaliation under Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, and the Equal Pay Act; actions to recover employee benefits under ERISA (long-term disability); whistleblower actions; and unemployment hearings. In addition, we provide consultations on employment contracts and severance agreements.
